v2.5.09166 breaks XAML intellisense in Visual Studio 2008

v2.5.09166 breaks XAML intellisense in Visual Studio 2008

I have been struggling with XAML intellisense (WPF and Silverlight) for several weeks now since starting with a clean install of Windows 7.

After days of unsuccessful troubleshooting with a Microsoft employee, I reinstalled Windows 7 and XAML intellisense returned up until the point that I installed GhostDoc 2.5.09166.

My colleagues are using a slightly older version of  GhostDoc 2.5 and have not experienced the problem.

I have uninstalled GhostDoc and intellisense remains broken. Any suggestions on how I can recover this essential feature without reinstalling Windows?

    Hi Richard,

Thank you  for reporting this. Please help me to troubleshoot this issue.

What is the version that you colleagues using?

I'm not sure how GhostDoc could break XAML Intellisense  as it only activates itself when editing C# and VB source files... And the fact that XAML Intellisense remains broken after uninstalling GhostDoc would be yet another indication that it may've not broken it in the first place.

Did you install any other VS Add-ins ot Extensions (packages) prior to GhostDoc?

Did you try to follow Karl Shifflett's advice to restore XAML Intellisense? http://karlshifflett.wordpress.com/2008/02/16/after-installing-the-new-framework-35-sdk-vs2008-xaml-intellisense-no-longer-works-workaround-posted/  - apparently this issue is not that uncommon, especially after installing .NET Framework 3.5...

Please let me know if this helps.

    Thanks!

    Thank you,
    Serge Baranovsky

I have tried a great many things to solve the problem (https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=510056).

In the end, I reinstalled Windows 7 from scratch. I started by only installing Visual Studio 2008 and adding SP1 and updates, checking each step of the way for XAML intellisense. As soon as I installed GhostDoc, intellisense was gone. I restored to the previous restore point (as uninstalling GD didn't restore intellisense) and intellisense was working again. I then installed GD 2.5.09150 and intellisense remained functional.

The rest of my team was/is using build 9150 and have never had a problem.

I forgot to mention that GhostDoc was the first and only add-in that I installed at the time.
